The Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall metro station is set for a major expansion. Dubai authorities are responding to rapidly growing passenger traffic at one of the city's busiest transport hubs.
In 2024, the number of passengers using the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station exceeded 10.577 million, which means an average of almost 58,000 people per day. Such high traffic has necessitated urgent infrastructure measures – the city authorities do not want to allow the transport system in this key location to become overloaded.
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with developer Emaar Properties, has announced plans for a comprehensive upgrade of the station. The aim of the investment is to increase the station's capacity by 65%, which will meet the growing needs of both residents and tourists.
The total area of the station is to increase from the current 6,700 m² to 8,500 m², and the hourly capacity from 7,250 to 12,320 passengers. Once the modernization work is complete, the station will be able to handle up to 220,000 people per day.
The works will also include the extension of entrances and footbridges, the addition of escalators and lifts, and the separation of entrance and exit gates, which will improve passenger flow during rush hours.
