It's official: From 1 January 2026, vignettes will replace tolls at toll gates on Croatian highways. This solution will definitely make holiday travel to Croatia easier for hundreds of thousands of tourists.
The Croatian Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure has officially confirmed reports that have been circulating for several months: at the end of the 2026 summer season, Croatia will introduce vignettes on its highways. Vignettes will replace the classic taxes paid at toll gates when exiting a selected section of the motorway. Unfortunately, the answer to the question: when will vignettes be introduced on motorways in Croatia? is: only after the 2026 holiday season, so most tourists will not benefit from the new rules until the 2027 holidays.
The vignettes will cover the entire highway network in Croatia. It will be possible to purchase vignettes online. How much will vignettes cost in Croatia? Unfortunately, we do not have this information yet. However, the aforementioned Ministry assures that the taxes will not exceed the current tolls.
