Since August this year, new regulations on prohibited items in checked baggage have been in force in the United States. The list includes cordless hair straighteners and curling irons, which from now on cannot be carried in the luggage compartment of aircraft.
The US aviation authorities have decided to ban the transport of cordless hair styling devices in checked baggage. This mainly concerns straighteners and curling irons equipped with batteries or heating elements, which may pose a fire hazard during flight.
Travelers can still take this type of equipment with them, but only in their carry-on luggage. In addition, the devices must have a mechanism to prevent accidental activation of the heater. This minimizes the risk of overheating and possible incidents on board.
The new regulations do not apply to corded hair straighteners and curling irons. Such devices can be carried in both carry-on and checked baggage without any restrictions.
