The colourful streets of Havana and the golden sands of the Cuban coast attract hundreds of thousands of tourists throughout the year. If you are planning a trip to Cuba and wondering when is the best time to holiday on this Caribbean island, you've come to the right place! Our short guide will tell you when is the best time to travel to Cuba, what the weather is like in Cuba in different months and what is the optimal month for a holiday in Cuba.
When to go to Cuba? This is the basic question we ask ourselves before planning a holiday trip. The good news is that Cuba is a (practically) year-round destination and the perfect place to escape the cold European winter. Cuba is located in a tropical climate zone, characterised by high temperatures throughout the year (average 25-30°C) and a clear division into two seasons: rainy (May-October/November) and dry (November/December-April). It is a hot and humid climate, tempered by trade winds, where unfortunately there is a risk of hurricanes in autumn.
The Caribbean has its own climate, so it is worth visiting at any time of the year. What is Cuba like in spring and autumn? In spring in Cuba, maximum temperatures rise from around 27-29°C in March to nearly 31°C in May, which is associated with the highest amount of sunshine in the year. May marks the transition to the rainy season, bringing increased humidity and heavy downpours. Autumn is characterised by sultry heat with temperatures ranging from 29-32°C, with September and October being the statistical peak of the hurricane season. It is not until November that a gradual cooling and the onset of more stable, dry weather brings an end to the period of tropical cyclones.

Tourist season Cuba – tourism in Cuba is unevenly distributed throughout the year, although it is a year-round destination. The main tourist season in Cuba lasts from mid-December to mid-March, which coincides with the most stable and sunny weather. Another peak occurs in July and August, when the island is visited by large numbers of tourists spending their summer holidays, so the hot tropical climate coincides with the holiday season. The holiday periods are the busiest times for tourism and the highest prices, so you can expect crowds.
The best time to visit is between December and May, when the sunny dry season brings comfortable temperatures between 21°C and 27°C. However, it is worth remembering that the rainy season in Cuba lasts from May to November, bringing oppressive humidity and violent, though usually short, downpours. When planning to visit the capital, take into account the temperatures in Havana, which are very pleasant in winter but reach an average of over 32°C in the height of summer. We advise against travelling in September and October, as this is the most active hurricane season in Cuba, bringing the risk of violent weather phenomena.

The warmest months in Cuba are July and August, when average air temperatures are around 32°C and maximum temperatures reach 36°C.
The optimal climatic conditions for tourists are during the dry season from November to May, providing sunny weather, low humidity and comfortable temperatures between 21 and 27°C.
Travelling to Cuba during the hurricane season from June to November carries the risk of heavy rainfall and strong winds, especially in August and September, when the risk is greatest. Despite the risk, August is warm but rainy. It is best to avoid travelling during the peak hurricane season in September, when the risk is greatest.
