After five years of intensive reconstruction work, Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris will reopen its doors to the faithful and tourists. The official opening is scheduled for Sunday, 8 December this year, marking the long-awaited return of one of France's most important symbols.
The reconstruction of the cathedral was necessary after a tragic fire in April 2019 caused severe damage to one of the world's most famous churches. The reconstruction, carried out under the watchful eye of specialists, focused on recreating the original appearance of the cathedral, preserving its historic details and atmosphere.
Opening ceremonies will begin on 7 December, when the state will symbolically hand over the rebuilt temple to the church during a service. A day later, the cathedral will be opened to the public. For the first week, its doors will be open until 10pm, allowing worshippers and tourists alike to enjoy the interior of this unique place in a unique evening atmosphere.
There will be a free ticket system for visitors, which can be booked on the day of their visit or a few days in advance. At any one time, the temple will be able to accommodate between 1,900 and 3,000 people, with the aim of ensuring a comfortable visit while maintaining safety rules.
