Wizz Air has applied to open a new operating base in Israel. If the plans are approved, the carrier will begin base operations at Ben Gurion Airport, significantly increasing its presence in the Middle East.
The new base would be located in Tel Aviv and would become one of the key points in the development of the Wizz Air network in the region. One of the reasons for choosing Israel is the withdrawal of Ryanair from this market, which opens up space for competition and increases market share in connections to Europe.
For Wizz Air, this is an opportunity to take over some of the passengers who have been traveling with Ryanair and to strengthen its position in the low-cost flight segment between Israel and European cities.
The carrier plans to base as many as 10 aircraft in Tel Aviv within three years. The aircraft would serve up to 70 routes, which is almost 50 more destinations than currently.
