The now defunct airline Lufthansa Cityline

On 18 April 2026, Lufthansa decided to close its subsidiary and regional airline, Lufthansa Cityline. The airline’s decision was influenced by staff strikes and high fuel prices. Unfortunately, flights from Poland to Germany were also affected.

In mid-April 2026, after almost 68 years, the history of Lufthansa Cityline came to an end. Founded in 1958 in Emden, Lower Saxony, under the name OLT (Ostfriesische Lufttaxi), taken over by Lufthansa in 1989 and renamed to its final name in 1992, it ceased to exist this month. The German airline cited rising aviation fuel prices resulting from the US and Israeli conflict with Iran, as well as strikes lasting several days, as the reasons for closing Lufthansa Cityline. As a result of this decision, the Lufthansa subsidiary, which operated regional flights from Germany, has permanently grounded 27 aircraft.

What about flights from Poland? Unfortunately, the closure of Lufthansa Cityline is tragic news for travellers from Poland, as it was this airline that provided connections to the largest German transfer hubs from most Polish airports. At the moment, we know that the route from Katowice to Frankfurt will be suspended from 1 June until the end of October, and flights from Gdańsk to Munich will return, if at all, only for the winter season. The connection from Wrocław to Munich is due to return on 1 June, but there is a high likelihood that this route will also be suspended. Routes from Rzeszów and Bydgoszcz to Frankfurt are suspended until 31 May. This is all the information we currently have, based on the carrier’s booking system and articles on Fly4free.pl and other industry portals.
