Yesterday, on Wednesday, 3 September, a transport disaster occurred in Lisbon. The famous Glória Funicular railway, one of the biggest attractions in the Portuguese capital, suffered a serious accident. Several people were killed.
At this point, the BBC reports 16 fatalities and over 20 injured, some of whom are in critical condition. Due to the tragic nature of the situation, we are not publishing any photos of the accident; readers can find photos and videos from the scene online from witnesses at the site. The derailment and crash of the Glória Funicular took place on 3 September at around 6 p.m. local time. Initially, the media reported three fatalities, but in the following hours, the number of victims rose to 15, and according to some sources, to 16. We do not yet know the exact number of victims or the nationalities of those on board. All we know is that, in addition to Portuguese citizens, there were Germans, Spaniards and representatives of several other nationalities on board the funicular. The causes of the accident are being investigated.
