Ryanair has announced that it will completely withdraw from operating flights to the Azores from March 2026. The decision has attracted considerable interest among travelers, as the Portuguese archipelago has been popular with tourists from all over the world for years, including Poland.
The airline has stated that the main reason for the withdrawal of flights is the drastic increase in operating costs. After the COVID-19 pandemic, air navigation charges in the Azores increased by as much as 120%, which has a significant impact on the profitability of the routes.
In addition, the Portuguese government has decided to introduce a €2 travel tax, which also applies to arrivals in the Azores archipelago. According to Ryanair, the additional financial burden has made it unprofitable to maintain the routes.
Ryanair has announced that the change will take effect in March 2026. This means that the carrier will no longer operate any flights to the Azores, either seasonal or year-round. This is a significant change on the route map for people who chose this destination because of its affordable prices and frequency of flights.
