A bill has been submitted to the Norwegian parliament to introduce a tourist tax in the country. The bill allows local authorities to introduce the tax at their discretion.
Expensive, but beautiful and still undiscovered, Norway may soon become another place where tourists will have to pay a special tax for their presence. The Norwegian government has submitted a bill to the Norwegian parliament to introduce a tourist tax. According to the draft bill, the tourist tax would amount to 3% of each overnight stay. If the tourist tax comes into force (most likely at the end of 2025), the decision to collect the tourist tax will be up to local authorities. Local governments will be able to decide not to introduce the tax, to introduce it partially for a period of time of their choosing, or to introduce it in full. The money is to go to the budget and be used to improve the quality of tourist infrastructure.
