The United Arab Emirates has just broken its May temperature record — two days in a row. On Friday, the mercury reached 50.4ºC, only to climb to 51.6ºC the following day, 24 May, in the town of Sweihan in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The last weekend of May 2025 will go down in the UAE's meteorological history. On Saturday, 24 May, Sweihan recorded 51.6ºC, the highest air temperature ever measured in the Emirates in May.
This is an absolute record, especially since the previous day also saw exceptionally high temperatures. On Friday, thermometers reached 50.4ºC, which in itself exceeded the previous May record of 50.2ºC, set in 2009.
