Inside a Wizz Air aircraft

Wizz Air is testing a wireless in-flight entertainment system on several aircraft, offering paid access to films, TV series and other entertainment content, as well as the ability to use WhatsApp during the flight.

Following the recent introduction of in-flight ordering of products from the onboard menu (during most of the flight, approximately 30 minutes after take-off and 30 minutes before landing) via Bluetooth in the carrier’s app on passengers’ own phones, Wizz Air is testing another new feature which it plans to roll out across its entire fleet. At present, it is available exclusively on five aircraft based in the UK. What is this new feature? In-flight entertainment and limited internet access.

Using the Iridium satellite network and a solution from Immfly, Wizz Air will offer access to in-flight entertainment, not via the seatbacks, but on passengers’ own electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops). The in-flight entertainment system will consist of paid access to a library of films, TV series, music, podcasts and mobile games, as well as real-time flight information, city guides for destinations on the Wizz Air network and, interestingly, access to WhatsApp, specifically the ability to send and receive messages via the popular app. We do not yet know the prices for the in-flight entertainment, but the announcement of the service itself is very interesting.
