Ethiopian Airlines, Ethiopia's national carrier, has confirmed ambitious plans to further expand its route network. The airline intends to launch direct flights to Australia in 2028, but this depends on the expansion of its fleet with new long-haul aircraft.
The project's implementation depends on the purchase of at least two wide-body ultra-long-range aircraft. These will enable the airline to operate one of the longest routes in its global network.
Connecting Africa and Australia requires aircraft capable of flying very long distances without stopovers or with a minimum number of technical stops. Fleet decisions will therefore be crucial to the success of the entire venture.
The Ethiopian carrier has officially confirmed that it plans to launch flights to Australia in 2028. This is part of a long-term development strategy in which Addis Ababa is to strengthen its position as one of the most important transfer hubs in Africa.
