Every tourist would have to pay €1.50 per night if they visit the Italian city of Bolzano with a dog. The idea to introduce this regulation from 2026 was put forward by the city authorities.
Soon, pet owners will have to dig into their pockets and pull out €1.50 per night if they want to spend it in the heart of Italy's South Tyrol with their dog. This idea came from the Bolzano city authorities. The fee would apply from 2026 and cover the costs of keeping the city clean, i.e. cleaning up after dogs, creating special green spaces for animals and investing in dog runs. Interestingly, the fee will not only apply to tourists – even residents who own dogs would be required to pay around €100 per year to the city coffers under the new regulations.
