The Maldivian authorities have announced a total ban on entry for Israeli citizens. Changes to immigration law prevent people with Israeli passports from entering the popular island nation in the Indian Ocean.
The Maldivian authorities justified their decision as a gesture of solidarity with the Palestinians in the context of the ongoing war between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas. As government representatives emphasise, the ban is symbolic and political, expressing opposition to the military actions in the Gaza Strip.
Despite the introduction of the new regulations, dual nationals can still travel to the Maldives as long as they use passports other than Israeli ones. The restrictions apply only to holders of Israeli identity documents.
