Authorities in a city in southern Japan are planning an unusual way to attract foreign tourists. Under the new initiative, travelers would be able to ride high-speed trains for free.
The idea came from the city of Kagoshima, located in the southern part of the island of Kyushu. Although the region offers many tourist attractions and beautiful landscapes, the city's streets are still dominated mainly by its residents, and the number of foreign visitors remains relatively small.
One of the solutions being considered is to introduce free travel for tourists on high-speed trains on the route to the city. This is the Kyushu Shinkansen line, which connects the north and south of the island. According to the proposal, a one-way trip from Fukuoka, located at the northern tip of the island, to Kagoshima would be completely free for foreign tourists.
