On 14 July, Wizz Air announced in an official press release that it was closing its subsidiary in the United Arab Emirates, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, with effect from 1 September. All routes will be suspended and the aircraft based there will be transferred to Europe. What about routes from Poland? We have official confirmation that routes from Krakow and Katowice will continue to be operated by Wizz Air Hungary, not Wizz Air Abu Dhabi.
Quite unexpectedly, this morning, 14 July 2025, Wizz Air issued a surprising press release announcing the closure of its subsidiary in the United Arab Emirates, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi. From 1 September, the airline will cease operations from the UAE capital and suspend all routes from Abu Dhabi. Most importantly, this only applies to Wizz Air Abu Dhabi – not Wizz Air Hungary and Wizz Air Malta, which we all know well in Europe. What does this mean for Poland? Nothing, because flights from Krakow and Katowice to Abu Dhabi are operated by other Wizz Air companies, not Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, so planes from Poland to Abu Dhabi will continue to fly as normal and no flight cancellations are expected.
Which routes will be suspended? The closure of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi will result in the closure of the following connections from Abu Dhabi: flights to Tirana, Yerevan, Kutaisi, Astana, Belgrade and Samarkand. Flights to Abu Dhabi operated by Wizz Air Hungary and Wizz Air Malta, which will continue, are: from Abu Dhabi to Katowice, Krakow, Bucharest-Otopeni, Vienna and Budapest. What are the reasons for the closure of Wizz Air Abu Dhabi? The airline cites operational difficulties and the difficult situation in the Middle East... but this is just a PR explanation and a smokescreen. No one knows the official reasons, but most likely Wizz Air Abu Dhabi was closed as a result of increasing competition on the market for flights from the Middle East to Europe, the financial failure of the venture and the re-evaluation of demand for some routes and, according to our unofficial information, due to problems with basing Airbus aircraft in Abu Dhabi and temperatures associated with the hot summer months in the UAE.
Wizz Air's convenient routes from Abu Dhabi to the Maldives will disappear, and the airline plans to focus more on the European market, mainly Central and Eastern Europe. However, please note that flights from Krakow and Katowice to Abu Dhabi will continue without disruption, but these are not the only options for travelling from Poland to the United Arab Emirates. In the coming winter season, the following airlines will fly from Polish airports to the UAE: flydubai from Krakow, Warsaw and Poznań to Dubai, Emirates from Warsaw to Dubai, LOT from Warsaw to Dubai, Air Arabia from Krakow, Warsaw-Chopin and Warsaw-Modlin to Sharjah near Dubai (planned launch of connections from Wrocław, Gdańsk and Poznań), Enter Air from Katowice, Poznań, Gdańsk and Wrocław to Dubai, and Etihad from Warsaw to Abu Dhabi. There are plenty of possibilities, and we invite everyone interested in a holiday in the United Arab Emirates to check out the offers for trips to Dubai.
