Wi-Fi on board Wizz Air planes

Wizz Air has announced a partnership with Starlink. By 2027, all of the Hungarian airline’s aircraft are set to be equipped with satellite internet connectivity.

Is this a dream? No, Wizz Air has actually announced a partnership with Starlink! From 2027, the Hungarian carrier’s entire fleet is set to be equipped with a state-of-the-art satellite connectivity system, enabling passengers to use Wi-Fi on their devices with fast and stable connection speeds. The service is set to be available throughout the flight, but this raises the question – how much will it cost? It is not yet known. In its announcements, Wizz Air has not disclosed the cost of using Starlink Wi-Fi nor even whether the service will be paid or free.

Logic suggests that, as is often the case with low-cost airlines, Wi-Fi will certainly be a paid service. This need not necessarily be the case. All airlines using Starlink provide internet access for free, as this very idea – free (or cheap) high-speed internet – is a core principle of Starlink’s owners. We can only hope that this will also be the case here. And you, are you excited by this news, or do you prefer to relax and enjoy that moment of ‘being offline’ during the flight?
