The Indonesian government has rejected Bali's plan to ban Airbnb-style short-term rentals, citing excessive losses and the necessity for tourism.
There will be no announced ban on Airbnb on the island of Bali in Indonesia. The idea, communicated to the Indonesian press agency by the Governor of Bali, I Wayan Koster, last week, was rejected by the Indonesian government. Why? The authorities explain that short-term rentals in this form are an essential element in supporting tourism in Indonesia. Instead, regulators will require villa and homestay owners to obtain appropriate licenses, ensuring compliance with hotel service standards and tax obligations. Properties that do not comply with the Balinese government's requirements will have to be removed from the Airbnb platform.
