On 30 March 2026, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation stipulating that, by law, Palm Beach International Airport will change its name to Donald J. Trump International Airport from 1 July.
In the United States, airports named after former presidents are nothing new. This gesture, intended to commemorate their public service, comes as no surprise to anyone, although historical changes to airport names have not always been without controversy. In New York, we have JFK, the famous John F. Kennedy Airport; in Washington D.C., Ronald Reagan Airport; George Bush Airport in Houston; and several other examples. However, there has never before been a situation where an airport has been named after a sitting president. Until now.
Palm Beach Airport in Florida is to be renamed: Donald J. Trump International Airport. The name will officially change on 1 July 2026. Transitional measures, including updates to airport signage, branding and public materials, will be implemented in stages, airport authorities emphasise. West Palm Beach Airport is one of the highest-rated airports in the United States and one of Florida’s largest airports, located near Donald Trump’s famous Mar-a-Lago estate.
