Licence plate DD5 was sold for a staggering AED 35 million at the ‘Most Noble Number’ auction on 15 March in Dubai. This is one of the highest amounts ever paid for a licence plate in the history of the United Arab Emirates.
More than 20 people took part in the auction, but in the end, the number plate went to Muhammad BinGhatti, CEO of Binghatti Holding, a well-known Dubai developer. The fight for DD5 was extremely exciting, and one of the participants was 13-year-old Abdulkader Walid Asaad, who was trying to get his hands on a unique registration number.
Abdulkader Walid Asaad did not manage to outbid the highest bidder for DD5, but he did manage to purchase another prestigious number. He became the owner of the DD24 licence plate, which he bought for 6.3 million dirhams.
The auction raised over 83 million dirhams, and the proceeds will be donated to the ‘Fathers’ Endowment’ campaign, initiated by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The funds will be used to set up a trust fund to finance medical treatment and healthcare for the poor and needy.
