The Nepalese government wants to introduce changes to the issuing of permits to climb Mount Everest. The document would be issued, among others, to people with experience on other mountain peaks of at least 7,000 metres.
Major changes are coming for climbing the world's highest peak. The Nepalese government wants to change several rules for granting official permits to climb Mount Everest. What would change? The summit would only be accessible to experienced climbers who have already climbed a mountain at least 7,000 metres high. Each participant would also have to have a medical certificate issued by a licensed Nepalese medical facility, and the expedition leader would have to be a Nepalese citizen.
The changes seem beneficial for the Nepalese government, but they have sparked protests from many local businesses. From an ecological and safety point of view, this is a step in the right direction, but it also restricts business for entrepreneurs. Will the changes come into force? We will keep you updated.
