The German airline Lufthansa is introducing a stopover programme. Travellers will be able to extend their stay in Munich during a layover and explore this beautiful city whilst taking advantage of discounts offered by the airline.

After many years of waiting, Lufthansa has added a stopover programme to its offering, a very popular feature among the world’s largest airlines. What does the stopover service involve? Passengers booking a flight with a stopover at a given location can extend their layover from a few hours to even several days. They do so free of charge, and the booking remains on a single ticket. Depending on the airline, they may receive discounts on hotels, public transport, car hire or free benefits such as city tours. How will this work with Lufthansa?

Lufthansa’s stopover service applies exclusively to connections in Munich. At present, it operates on a limited basis, offering extended stopovers with sightseeing only on selected flights to Singapore and the United States. Those who opt for the service can look forward to discounts on local attractions, a 10% discount on the Munich City Pass – which grants free entry to 40 city attractions and free travel on public transport – as well as discounts on bookings at selected hotels and car hire companies. Lufthansa’s Stopover sounds interesting, and we look forward to the service being expanded.
