Terrifying scenes at Newark Airport in the United States. A United Airlines Boeing 767, whilst landing, struck a truck and a street lamp with its extended landing gear. Fortunately, virtually no one was injured.
On 3 May 2026, a near-tragedy occurred at Newark Airport, 15 kilometres from New York. A United Airlines Boeing 767, finishing its flight from Venice, struck a bakery truck with its extended landing gear whilst approaching for landing, and then a street lamp. Specifically, the tip of the landing gear grazed the roof of a truck driving on the motorway right next to the airport, causing minor scratches and a brief visit to hospital for the driver. None of the passengers or crew members were injured. United Airlines has announced an investigation in conjunction with federal authorities to clarify why the aircraft was flying so low, a fact of which the control tower was unaware.
