Heathrow Airport has decided to close the airport for the whole day (21.03) due to a fire at a nearby electrical substation, which caused a power outage.
London Heathrow Airport, the UK's busiest airport and one of the largest airports in Europe, is facing a major disruption. Heathrow Airport will be closed until the end of the day (Friday 21 March 2025) due to a fire at a nearby electrical substation. The fire does not only affect the airport, but also around 5,000 properties in Hayes, West London, which have been left without power. Around 150 people had to be evacuated as a result of the fire, which started in the early hours of 20 March.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) has announced that the fire is now under control. However, the cause of the fire has not been determined. According to Flightradar24, almost 1,400 flights will be affected by the closure of Heathrow Airport, and 120 planes were in the air on their way to London when the airport closure was announced.
