The Shark Jaw, one of the most iconic buildings in the Vietnamese capital Hanoi, is to be demolished.

Anyone who has been to Vietnam and visited the capital Hanoi has seen crowds of tourists taking photos or has taken a photo of one of the most distinctive buildings in the city - The Shark Jaw. This multi-storey building, which has been standing in the centre of Hanoi since the 1990s, has become a cult building due to its location and appearance: the neon signs of the restaurants and bars as well as its specific appearance have won it many fans. According to the latest reports, the Shark Jaw building will be demolished at the end of April.

The city council decided to demolish the building to widen Kinh Nha Square in the centre of Hanoi. The demolition will last until 30 April, after which the building site will be used as a public square connecting Hanoi's Old Town with Hoen Kim Lake and the neighbouring streets. In an interview with the Vietnam News Agency, representatives of the Hanoi authorities emphasised that ‘the building had fulfilled its historical mission by contributing to the city's development’.
