From November 1 this year, travelers to Zanzibar and Tanzania must prepare for higher costs. A new tourist tax will come into effect, which will apply to passengers on international flights.
From the beginning of November, every traveler going to Tanzania, including Zanzibar, will pay an additional tourist tax. It will amount to $45 for a one-way ticket and $90 for a return flight. The tax will be added directly to the ticket price, so tourists will not have to pay it separately at the airport.
The new fee will apply to all international passengers, except children under two years of age and airline crew members. This means that most tourists visiting Zanzibar from November will have to factor the additional cost into their travel budget.
The funds collected will be used to develop and implement API (Advanced Passenger Information) and PNR (Passenger Name Record) systems. These will enable airlines to transfer detailed passenger data and create an extensive database of booking information. The systems are intended to improve travel safety.
