After several years of renovation work, Karakol airport in Kyrgyzstan has reopened. This is excellent news for tourists heading out of the Kyrgyz mountains.
In December 2024, the airport in the Kyrgyz city of Karakol reopened after several years of modernisation work. This is excellent news for tourists who are planning a trip to Kyrgyzstan. The city of Karakol is located on the eastern side of Lake Issyk-kul, in eastern Kyrgyzstan, about 150 kilometres from the Kyrgyz-Chinese border. It is a great departure phase for tourists planning to enjoy the mountains in Kyrgyzstan. The reopening of the airport will shorten the journey time, which previously took a minimum of 6.5 hours from Kyrgyzstan's capital, Bishkek. On 19 December, Asman Airlines started a regular service from Bishkek to Karakol with a frequency of two flights per week.
