Syrian Air, Syria’s national airline, is set to resume flights to the European Union for the first time since the Arab Spring and the outbreak of the civil war. Amsterdam will be the first destination following the resumption of services.

This unexpected return to European skies is now a reality. The stabilising domestic situation in Syria is allowing for the resumption of an increasing number of international flights. On 4 July, Syria’s national carrier, Syrian Air, will return to European skies. Syrian Air will fly from Damascus to Amsterdam three times a week: on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. On board Airbus A320s, passengers will spend around 4 hours and 50 minutes on the direct flight. The resumption of flights from the Netherlands to Syria marks the first step in reconnecting a country still recovering from a long war with the outside world and the home countries of the large Syrian diaspora.
