One of the largest low-cost airlines in the United States, Southwest Airlines, will end the free checked baggage allowance of two pieces of luggage up to 23 kg per passenger from 28 May.
Southwest Airlines, one of the largest low-cost airlines in the USA, has decided to remove the option for passengers to check in two pieces of luggage weighing up to 23 kg for the price of a ticket. Until now, each passenger could check in two suitcases weighing up to 23 kg for free, which is very rare not only among low-cost airlines but also among traditional airlines. From 28 May, checked baggage on Southwest Airlines will be subject to a fee.
The prices for checked baggage have not been disclosed yet, but Southwest Airlines ensures that the change will result in cheaper tickets for passengers travelling with hand luggage only. Travellers who will still be able to check in free hold luggage are: members of the Southwest Airlines loyalty programme, holders of the airline's credit card and owners of tickets with premium seats.
