From the beginning of 2026, the ‘Roam Like At Home’ zone will be expanded to include two additional countries: Ukraine and Moldova. This decision will allow internet and phone calls to be used in these two countries on the same terms as in other European Union countries.
First, let's explain: what is the ‘Roam Like At Home’ zone? ‘Roam like at home’ is a rule introduced by the European Union, which allows subscribers to use telecommunications services (calls, text messages, internet) in other EU countries on the same terms as in their own country, without additional roaming charges, as long as they stay within their tariff package. This means that if your mobile operator package includes unlimited internet and free calls, you can use several to a dozen or so GB of free internet and free calls or texts within the European Union and other countries in the ‘Roam Like At Home’ zone, within the limit set by your operator in your tariff plan.
From 1 January 2026, Ukraine and Moldova will join the ‘Roam Like At Home’ zone, allowing you to use the internet and make calls in these countries in the same way as in other European Union countries. This is excellent news for any traveller planning to visit Moldova or Ukraine in the near future. Thanks to this decision, you will not have to worry about purchasing local SIM cards and activating internet packages on site.
