Taking off your shoes at the airport

On 13 July, one of the most annoying regulations for passengers disappeared in the United States. You no longer have to take off your shoes during airport security checks.

The rule requiring passengers to remove their shoes when passing through security checkpoints at US airports was officially abolished on 13 July 2025. One of the most annoying mandatory regulations at American airports will no longer bother passengers. The requirement was introduced in 2006 after an American Airlines passenger attempted to blow up a plane with explosives hidden in his shoes.
