Travellers departing from the Netherlands will soon pay significantly more for their air tickets. The Dutch government has announced an increase in aviation tax, which is set to rise from the current level of just under €30 to as much as €71 per passenger in 2027. The new rates will depend on the length of the flight.
The aviation tax, which applies to all passengers departing from Dutch airports, is to be increased as part of an environmental policy and measures to reduce CO₂ emissions. It currently stands at around €29, but according to plans, it could reach as much as €71 in 2027, depending on the length of the route.
The tax increase could significantly affect the competitiveness of Dutch airports, including Amsterdam Schiphol, one of the largest airports in Europe. Experts predict that some passengers will choose to fly from airports in Belgium or Germany, where such charges are lower or more favourable.
