Greece is preparing a brand new museum for locals and tourists. The Museum of Underwater Heritage of Antiquity in Piraeus, a port district of Athens, is due to open in 2026.

Greece is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. The country's beautiful beaches, delicious cuisine and incredibly interesting history are a real magnet for visitors. Now Greece's capital Athens will be enriched by another amazing attraction. The Museum of Underwater Heritage of Antiquity is being built in its harbour district, Piraeus. The construction of this remarkable cultural initiative is progressing at a very fast pace and the city authorities expect it to open by 2026.
 

A unique new museum in Athens
 

The Museum of the Underwater Heritage of Antiquity will house more than 2,500 exhibits, and will be housed in a 1934 silo. Above this, the museum is to be equipped with the latest technology, conservation laboratories and modern storage facilities. Greece's Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni revealed that the museum will feature sunken human settlements, shipwrecks, ship replicas, hulls and cargo from merchant ships, as well as maps and diagrams, creating an immersive experience that traces the course of history beneath the waves.
