Florence goes to war with too many tourists
The negative effects of over-tourism in Florence have been felt by local residents for years. The city authorities have decided to impose strict rules and go to war with too many tourists.
Problems with too many tourists are an increasingly serious topic in many European cities. The crowds are being talked about loudly in Spain, Italy or France. Mallorca regularly organizes protests, and Malaga restricts the rental of apartments to tourists. The reason is one - excessive tourist traffic disturbs local residents, raises the price of accommodation and basic necessities, and has a bad impact on ecology and local ecosystems. Florence has become seriously involved in the fight against too much tourist traffic, and looking at the latest bans, it could even be called a small war.
Florence with new bans on tourists
One of the most beautiful cities in Europe, Italy's Florence, is struggling with crowding, noise and depopulation of its historic center due to aggressive mass tourism. Sarah Funaro, Florence's mayor, has outlined 10 bans and restrictions on tourists to restore peace for locals. Here are the most important of them:
- A ban on the installation of short-term rental key boxes on doors and entrance gates
- Banning the use of loudspeakers by tourist guides
- Restricting the movement of meleks and golf carts in the historic city center
