The question “where to stay in Vietnam” is one of the most frequently asked questions before traveling to Southeast Asia. Accommodation in Vietnam is very diverse: from hostels and shared rooms to standard hotel rooms and luxury hotels at phenomenal prices. Many people may be surprised that Vietnam has such a well-developed accommodation market. Find out where to stay in Vietnam during your trip and where to book accommodation.
Let's start with one fact: in my opinion, accommodation in Vietnam is cheap, cool, and diverse. You will find various types of accommodation at great prices. Depending on your preferences, you can choose from the following types of accommodation in Vietnam: hostels, homestays, private apartments, hotels, guesthouses, or luxury hotels. Hotels and hostels in Vietnam are the most common choice for travelers and the most reliable form of accommodation during your trip. Apartments and homestays in Vietnam are a choice either for people staying longer and looking for home-like comfort, or for people looking for accommodation in smaller villages, traveling by motorbike or wanting to experience the authentic atmosphere. I personally recommend hostels and guesthouses in Vietnam, as I have used them most often during my travels.
I also recommend our Guide to Vietnam, where you will find all the most important information before your trip.
Tourist accommodation in Vietnam can sometimes arouse suspicion due to its low price. Is accommodation for €3 per night really not a fake, or is it possible to sleep there in normal conditions? Let me put it this way: most cheap accommodation in Vietnam is a hit, not a miss. Hostels in Vietnam sometimes offer surprisingly low prices per night, and even in hotels you can find exceptional deals, and if the accommodation is backed up by good reviews (in my opinion, a minimum of 7.5, e.g., on Booking), then you definitely don't have to hesitate and it's worth booking.

The best place to stay in Vietnam depends on your preferences – Hanoi is a great base with a wide selection of hostels and hotels, Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) offers lively streets and cheap accommodation. Islands such as Phu Quoc or the quieter Ninh Binh are ideal for relaxation, and for adventure, it is worth staying along the Ha Giang motorcycle loop. If you plan to visit all of Vietnam, you will of course stay in each of these places. What then? What kind of accommodation is best to choose?
Personally, I recommend staying in budget hotels and highly rated hostels. Budget accommodations are often of a really good standard, have all the amenities and free breakfast, and in hostels you can meet other travelers, make new friends, and have an unforgettable time in an international group. And if you feel like a little luxury, the best hotels in Vietnam are really cheap, and a 5-star hotel in Vietnam by the sea sometimes costs the same as a 2-star hotel in Europe.

What is the best way to book accommodation in Vietnam? In my opinion, both methods are good when traveling through Vietnam: booking portals and direct booking at the hotel. Why? Of course, for accommodation in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and other larger cities, it is better to use, for example, the Booking hotel database due to the large number of accommodation facilities, but in smaller towns and villages, you can easily book directly on site, wherever you decide to stay. Where to find cheap accommodation in Vietnam? Travelers recommend Agoda, but due to their poor customer service, I still recommend Booking with a high Genius level.
What kind of accommodation should you choose in Vietnam if you are traveling as a family with children? Where to stay in Vietnam with children? When choosing accommodation in Vietnam with children, look for hotels with a swimming pool and family rooms, in city centers choose accommodation close to Vietnam's attractions or on beaches that guarantee total family relaxation, read family reviews before booking and choose places with easy access to attractions, minimizing long journeys to ensure comfort and safety for the youngest.

Attractive prices for luxury hotels in Vietnam are an incentive to book vacations in 5-star hotels and luxurious resorts. Which facilities are worth paying attention to and which luxury hotels in Vietnam can I recommend? Let's name a few: La Vela Hue Hotel in Hue, Bamboo Sapa Hotel in Sa Pa, Wyndham Garden Hoi An Dau Beach in Hoi An, Radisson Blu Ha Long Bay in Ha Long Bay, Prince Hotel in Da Nang, Signature by M Village Danang Heritage in Da Nang, Heritage Ham Long Hotel and Spa in Hanoi, and Oakwood Residence Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City.
Tourism in Vietnam has been growing rapidly in recent years, and more and more travelers are choosing this country as their vacation destination. That's why it's worth visiting Vietnam before it gets too crowded! Our articles, such as What to see in Vietnam? Sightseeing plan and Vietnam – how to best plan your trip to this country?, will certainly be helpful. And for true travel enthusiasts, I recommend checking out Two Continents' trips to Dubai to see one of the most amazing metropolises in the world.
In Hanoi, the most popular district for accommodation is the Old Town with its amazing atmosphere and proximity to attractions, and the neighboring district of Ba Dinh with more peace and quiet, and in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), the best is District 1, central and full of attractions, with options for different budgets.
Yes, staying in hostels and homestays in Vietnam is definitely worthwhile and worth choosing. They offer low prices (often less than $10 per night), an amazing atmosphere, the opportunity to meet other travelers and locals, and authentic experiences.
In Vietnam, you will easily find accommodation in various price ranges (from cheap lodgings to luxury hotels) close to tourist attractions, so it is worth choosing accommodation in such places and saving time on travel.
