Most of us have heard of Vietnam at some point. This country is associated with stunning nature, delicious cuisine, and an ideal vacation destination. But where is Vietnam on the map? What is Vietnam's geographical location and who does it border? Let's take a closer look at Vietnam's geography.
Vietnam is a country of majestic views, such as rice fields stretching to the horizon, magnificent rock formations in Ha Long Bay, tropical climates at the mouth of the Mekong River, and many other unforgettable places to see. A vacation in Vietnam is a great idea for anyone who wants an exotic adventure, to try fantastic street food, and to experience a different culture. Where exactly is this land, well known for its distinctive hats, aromatic pho soup, and ubiquitous scooters?
Is Vietnam in Southeast Asia? Yes, Vietnam is one of the countries of Southeast Asia, located in the eastern part of the continent. Vietnam in Southeast Asia is one of the larger countries in the region, and besides it, Southeast Asia also includes Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Brunei, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, East Timor, and Singapore.
Vietnam map and location – where exactly is Vietnam on the map and how to get there? Vietnam is located about 9,000 kilometers from Europe, so traveling to Vietnam by land is practically impossible. The best way to travel to Vietnam is by plane. A direct flight from Europe takes about 11 hours, depending on the airport of departure.

Vietnam borders three countries. Vietnam's borders are as follows: China to the north, Laos and Cambodia to the west, lying in the eastern part of the Indochinese Peninsula. In addition, Vietnam is surrounded by the waters of the South China Sea. Vietnam's neighbors are on fairly good terms with it, apart from difficult incidents in the past and short wars with China and Cambodia in the 20th century.
When preparing for your trip, you should know that Vietnam's climate is extremely diverse, due to its long geographical length and the fact that mountains and highlands account for about 75% of the country's area. This varied terrain translates into the dominance of two main climate types: tropical humid in the north and tropical humid or equatorial humid in the south. Regardless of the region, high air temperatures, significant rainfall, very high humidity, and periodic monsoons are characteristic of Vietnam as a whole. Northern Vietnam experiences four seasons, with a cool, humid winter, while the south (such as Ho Chi Minh City) has only two distinct seasons: dry (November to April) and rainy (May to October). Ultimately, thanks to such diverse conditions, Vietnam is a tourist destination that can be visited successfully all year round, as long as you plan your route accordingly, adapting to the local weather.

Thanks to our knowledge of Vietnam's location and climate, our orientation on the world map is now much better. However, Vietnam's tourist location is not the only information you need before an exotic vacation. It is also useful to know: how to best plan your trip to Vietnam, what are the most important attractions you must see in Vietnam, when to go to Vietnam and what the weather is like there, the most interesting dishes to try in Vietnam, and a comprehensive guide to vacations in Vietnam.

Vietnam is about 8,500-9,000 km away from Europe in a straight line, depending on the chosen point in Europe and Vietnam. Of course, the distance by road is much higher in kilometers, and the distance traveled by planes from Europe to Hanoi is about 8,500 km.
The capital of Vietnam, Hanoi, is located in the northern part of the country, on the Red River. The second, unofficial capital of Vietnam and the business capital of the country, Ho Chi Minh City, is located in the southern part of the country, in the Mekong River delta.
Vietnam is located on the South China Sea, which is part of the Pacific Ocean, as well as on the Gulf of Tonkin and the Gulf of Thailand. The country has a very long coastline (over 3,400 km) and many beautiful beaches and resorts that attract tourists from all over the world.
