The incident occurred at Chandigarh Airport in northern India. Moments after an IndiGo flight landed, a fire broke out on board caused by a power bank catching fire.
The IndiGo aircraft was already on the tarmac when the electronic device caught fire in the cabin. Within a short time, smoke filled the interior of the plane, causing chaos among the passengers. Airport personnel quickly began evacuating the passengers. According to local media, six people were injured and taken to the hospital. The remaining passengers exited the plane safely.
The incident once again drew attention to the risks associated with carrying devices with lithium-ion batteries on board aircraft. Airlines and airports are increasingly reminding passengers of the rules for safely transporting power banks.
