He wanted to eat his passport. The plane had to make an emergency landing

From 1 January, all EU citizens will be able to fly into Tunisia on the basis of only showing their passport at the border. This will end the 4-month period of entry to Tunisia on identity card only for residents of EU countries.
On 31 August 2024, Tunisia introduced new border regulations. This allowed Poles and citizens of other EU countries to arrive in Tunisia and cross the border at the airport using only an ID card. This facilitation has significantly increased Tunisia's popularity as a holiday destination among Poles. Low prices, beautiful hotels, history and warm sea attracted not only residents from the Vistula river, but also from other EU countries. Unfortunately, the favourable border regulations only lasted until 31 December 2024 and were not extended.
From 1 January 2025, Poles (and citizens of other EU countries) can fly to Tunisia and cross the border at the airport only on presentation of a valid passport. The possibility of crossing the border on an identity card has disappeared. The Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced an extension of the regulations in force since last August, but unfortunately these have not come into force. When crossing the Tunisian border, the passport must be valid for a minimum of three months from the date of intended departure, or six months if you do not have a return ticket from Tunisia. Temporary passports are accepted, which is very important from the perspective of forgetful holidaymakers.
