The capital of Nepal is in chaos. The tallest hotel in the country, the Hilton Kathmandu, which opened just a year ago, burned down during violent anti-government protests.
For several days, Nepal has been facing a wave of violent social unrest, which has mainly affected Kathmandu and other major cities in the country. Initially, the demonstrations were peaceful, but they quickly turned into violent clashes with the security forces. The authorities tried to limit their scope by banning the use of social media, but this decision was almost immediately reversed, further fueling the crowd's emotions.
In the center of the capital, protesters surrounded the luxurious Hilton Kathmandu hotel, the tallest hotel building in Nepal. After breaking in, the building was looted. Fortunately, after brief negotiations, all guests and employees were safely evacuated. Shortly thereafter, the hotel was set on fire, and within a short time, the fire engulfed almost the entire structure.
