Sardinia Italy Cagliari

Sardinia has decided to contribute as much as EUR 30 million to launch new connections by airlines. If any of the airlines decide to do so, we can expect a route from Łódź to Cagliari to be launched.

We can find out more about this on the Fly4free.pl website. Mariusz Piotrowski writes in his article about a possible new connection from Łódź to Sardinia in Italy. What is it all about and when can we expect the new route? The Sardinian authorities have decided to subsidise airlines for launching new routes from the island. The total amount of support from the autonomous region of Sardinia is EUR 30 million. The subsidies apply to flights from three airports in the region: Cagliari, Alghero and Olbia. The subsidy system has been approved by the European Union and will cover 50 per cent of airport costs for three years.

A list of 67 connections qualifying for subsidies has been drawn up. Among them is the route from Łódź to Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia. This means that if any airline (although it would most likely be Ryanair) decides to launch such a connection, it can count on substantial subsidies for the first three years. The same will apply to other connections on the list. Why was the decision to launch the subsidy system made? Although popular with tourists, Sardinia still struggles with a lack of air connections, especially compared to its southern neighbour, Sicily. The subsidy programme was created to increase tourist air traffic to the island.
