Wizz Air’s new Disruption Assistance service

Wizz Air has added a new paid disruption assistance service to its offering. In the event of delayed or cancelled flights, the service will automatically search for an alternative flight with Wizz Air or another airline.

Disruption Assistance appears to be a product designed to monetise potential flight delays or cancellations by Wizz Air. How exactly does it work? Let’s look at an example: when booking your flight tickets, you have the option to purchase “disruption assistance”, which costs from a few to several dozen zlotys up to over 150 zlotys, depending on the flight duration and date. The service is not insurance, but it ensures your flight is monitored by the system. If your flight is delayed by more than 2 hours or cancelled 24 hours before departure, you will be notified immediately and will have the option to:

  • Change your booking to any flight of your choice; it does not have to be with Wizz Air. Important: the flight price per person must not exceed the set upper limit, which varies by destination and date. For example, flights from Kraków: Sofia up to 400 PLN per person, Larnaca up to 4,300 PLN per person, etc. The more expensive the flight, the higher the upper limit.
  • You may be eligible for a full refund on your original flight if none of the rebooking options suit you.

Using Disruption Assistance does not prevent you from claiming compensation for a delayed or cancelled flight. The service can only be purchased at the time of booking, not later, and the decision regarding the new flight will always be made by the booking holder, who decides on behalf of all passengers. In such a situation, passengers cannot travel separately. It is also important to remember that passengers remain responsible for their own checked-in luggage, so if they wish to cancel a delayed flight but have already checked their luggage in, they must collect it themselves and check it in again.
