Cracow Airport is planning to build a temporary passenger terminal to help handle the growing air traffic. The new facility will have up to eight departure gates and will be located on the site of the old cargo terminal.
In 2024, Cracow airport saw a 20 per cent increase in the number of passengers handled, significantly exceeding previous forecasts. The current infrastructure has reached capacity limits, forcing the airport authorities to develop ad hoc solutions, such as the construction of a makeshift terminal.
The planned makeshift infrastructure is intended to be low-cost and quick to build. The facility is likely to be located on the site of the old cargo terminal and will be equipped with eight departure gates, allowing more passengers to be handled until the target solutions are in place.
The Balice Port Authority is aiming to transform Cracow Airport into one of the most important aviation hubs in Central and Eastern Europe. In its long-term strategy, the airport is to be ready to handle up to 20 million passengers a year.
