SAS will bring back business class on European routes
SAS will once again offer its passengers business class seats on European routes, but as is the case with most European carriers, it won't be true business class.
Scandinavian Airlines System, or SAS as it is popularly known, is leaning toward the return of business class on its European routes. The change is related to SAS joining the SkyTeam airline alliance. Why?
In recent months SAS has decided to leave the Star Alliance airline alliance and join the rival SkyTeam, which includes Air France and KLM, for example. The joint holding of these two airlines has decided to invest in the Scandinavian carrier. The additional funds are expected to improve SAS's market situation and equalize the comfort offered on board with the standards of the Air France-KLM duo. But what about the business class?
Business class is set to return to SAS' offerings on European routes to unify the product offered with other alliance members. Business seats are to return in place of the current “SAS Plus” fare. After purchasing the business fare, passengers will be able to count on access to a business lounge and priority in ground services, free Wi-Fi on board, and free snacks and beverages, which is what is offered on the “SAS Plus” fare, but with some enhancements. Meals served on board the aircraft will be of the higher end and will be served on china tableware. The biggest downside is that it will still be typical European airline business class: an economy seat with more legroom and a blocked middle seat, and a private toilet at the front of the plane. These amenities compare rather poorly in fare comparison with Asian carriers.
