In August, the Iranian authorities changed the rules for tourists entering the country. Now, visiting Iran will only be possible through organised trips booked with agencies registered in Iran. This means the end of solo travel to the homeland of the Persians.
Reports from Aug 2025 indicated Iran tightened entry rules for some tourists (organized tours via registered agencies, fixed itineraries, licensed guides).
For 2026, multiple travel-industry sources say those measures were temporary and were largely rolled back in Oct 2025, meaning independent travel is again possible for most nationalities (often still with paperwork via an agency/authorization and a preference/requirement for registered accommodations).
Key exception in 2026: US/UK/Canadian travelers typically still need a licensed guide and agency-arranged services.
Costs: market examples vary widely—private tours are often quoted around $1,000–$5,000 per person, and an example 8-day private package is sometimes advertised around €590 per person (offer examples, not an official tariff).
The official Iran e-Visa portal remains the baseline reference for eligibility and requirements. Some missions also list mandatory e-Visa insurance-related fees (e.g., €10–€15 on one embassy’s fee page).
Bottom line: for most travelers, solo/independent travel is back, but expect more structured visa paperwork; US/UK/Canada still commonly face guide/agency requirements.
