German airline Lufthansa has extended the availability of its ‘Light’ fare from economy class to economy, business and premium economy on selected intercontinental flights.

On 17 March, Lufthansa introduced changes to its fare structure. What do they involve? The ‘Light’ fare, which until now was available exclusively in Economy Class, will now also be available in Business Class and Premium Economy on selected intercontinental flights. The Pasażer.com portal has described the full change and outlined the fare conditions following the introduction of these changes, which we will detail below. We also invite you to read the original article by Marek Stus. What are the details?

  • Light business class fare: 1×32 kg of checked baggage instead of 2×32 kg, cabin baggage 2×8 kg + one personal item, seat reservation from €80–120 (previously included in the price for selected seats), ticket changes are possible but subject to a higher fee than under standard fares, no refunds, but standard access to business lounges included in the price.
  • Premium Economy Light fare: checked-in baggage 1×23 kg instead of 2×23 kg, cabin baggage 8 kg + personal item, seat reservation from 45 euros, ticket changes will be possible, with a higher fee than in standard fares, no refunds.

At present, the new “Light” fares will be available on selected flights to and from Central America, South America, the Middle East, Asia and Africa. The changes will not apply to flights to the USA, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Japan, China, Malaysia and Singapore. The new fares will apply across the entire Lufthansa Group, including Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, SWISS and Discover Airlines.
