Tickets to and from France could become significantly more expensive by increasing the air tax.
The French authorities are planning to make significant changes to the taxation of flights, which could result in airfares rising by up to several tens of euros. The new proposal involves a drastic increase in air tax rates, which will affect passengers travelling to and from France.
Currently, the air tax in France is €7.51 per passenger travelling on routes longer than 5,000 kilometres. Under the government's new plans, this rate would be increased to €42 for routes between 1,000 and 5,000 kilometres, and on long-haul flights the tax would rise to as much as €60 for passengers travelling in economy class.
Even more severe increases await business class passengers, who can expect even higher tax rates. The French authorities are hoping to raise up to more than one billion euros for the state budget through these changes.
These increases may be reflected in airfares in the coming months, which will certainly affect the cost of international travel, especially on longer routes.
