Dubai has unveiled the Dubai Walk Master Plan to make the city more pedestrian-friendly. The authorities announce the construction of 3,300km of walkways and 110 footbridges and subways.
The Dubai Walk Master Plan is a groundbreaking initiative to transform Dubai into a pedestrian-friendly city. The project involves the construction of 3,300km of new walkways and 110 footbridges and subways, which will significantly improve pedestrian comfort and safety in the city.
The first phase of the plan includes the implementation of two main routes - the historic Al Ras route and the Future Loop. The Al Ras route will focus on revitalising Dubai's historic centre. Pedestrians will benefit from shaded bus stops, climate control technology, art exhibitions, green spaces and many other amenities.
The second key element of the first phase of the plan is the Future Loop, which will be built in the area of the Museum of the Future. This 2km elevated pathway will connect 10 of the area's top attractions. The air-conditioned route will keep pedestrians comfortable, even on hot days, and is scheduled for completion in 2026.
