Air New Zealand has announced a revolutionary change for economy class passengers: lie-flat seats will be available on board selected aircraft as early as 2025. The service, which is available at an additional cost, is intended to increase the comfort of long-haul travel.
The new sleeping berths will be installed on board the Boeing 787. Two three-storey beds will be provided, the design of which will resemble train berths. Each reclining seat will be 200 cm long and 56 cm wide, providing enough space to rest during long flights.
Travellers using the reclining seats will receive a full-size pillow, a sheet and a blanket. In addition, the line will offer earplugs, a reading lamp and a curtain for more privacy.
The service will be available on a temporary booking basis, with passengers able to use the bed for a maximum of four hours. This solution is aimed at people who want to regenerate and improve the comfort of their journey without having to buy a seat in business class.
