From 3 January 2025, Air Canada is changing its hand luggage policy. Passengers booking tickets in basic economy fare will no longer be able to take standard hand luggage on board. The new policy will only allow passengers to take a small piece of luggage, such as a backpack or handbag.
The changes to the Canadian carrier's baggage policy apply to tickets issued in the cheapest economy fare, known as basic. From January, passengers who purchase tickets in this class will only be allowed to take on board a small piece of hand luggage - a handbag, backpack or laptop bag. The option to take a standard cabin bag will disappear.
If passengers wish to take larger hand luggage, they will face additional charges. The cost of such baggage at online check-in will be approximately EUR 35, and if it is checked in at the departure gate - up to EUR 60.
In addition, changes will also be made to the seat allocation system. In basic fares, passengers will no longer be able to choose their seats at check-in, and they will be assigned at random.
